Haunted Jaunt
About the Race
The inaugural Haunted Jaunt 5K & 10K Trail Races will take place on the Lawrence River Trails. This is a nighttime race that may feature a few spooky surprises along the route! Feel free to wear a costume but keep in mind the challenging nature of nighttime trail running when making costume choices.
Start Time: Sunset is scheduled for 6:29 PM and races begin at 6:30 PM. Depending on field size, the 5K and 10K start times may be staggered by up to 15 minutes; race directors will announce any adjustments closer to race day.
Light Source Required: All runners must carry a light source such as a headlamp, waistlight, or handheld flashlight. It will be dark on the course.
Course: The Lawrence River Trails are relatively flat singletrack with a few short hills, flowy and not too technical. The 5K is one loop; the 10K is two loops. This is a non-certified trail course, so your watch may read a little more or less than 5K or 10K. If the trails are unsafe or muddy, an alternate packed-gravel course on the Lawrence Levee Trail will be provided.
Aid Stations: Water, electrolytes, energy snacks, fruit, and more will be available. A small aid station sits near the 5K loop turnaround; 10K runners also have access to an aid station at the trailhead at the start of their second loop. In keeping with the Trail Hawks motto "Kindness to Life and Land," please bring your own reusable bottle or cup.
Swag: Participants registered by October 10 will receive a Haunted Jaunt t-shirt (extras raceday, first come first served, not guaranteed). All participants receive a custom race bib.
Parking: Parking is limited near the start/finish. Please park on the street following all Lawrence parking rules and respecting our North Lawrence neighbors. Alternatively, park in the public lot near the Kansas River bridge at N. 2nd St and Locust St for an approximately 1-mile levee warm-up and cool-down.
